Despite its many virtues, Benidorm’s city planning model relegates the public space to the background. For this reason, the project for these two sites (originally tendered in two different competitions) is conceived as one single project connecting both sites to the urban space. This instils the intervention with a sense of place and creates a landmark public area within a strongly private environment. The two towers are defined by applying the same dimensions and metric, although with different heights. Both are erected on two public use platforms (one social and one sports), whilst the remaining surface area of the two sites are joined by a large landscaped area. The goal of these apartment blocks is to make the most of the virtues of high-rise constructions (views and relationship with the outside) and for that purpose they are arranged in scarcely compartmentalised, free-flowing, unique spaces with an extensive envelope. Perimetral galleries are inserted between the solid pillars of the façade to act as thermal chambers, and transforming the apartments into large high-rise open-air terraces when opening windows.
