What would have happened to the characters of Sergio Cabrera’s film “La estrategia del caracol” if they had not lived in that particular building?
This proposal posits a revisit to the corrala typology of shared running balconies from a contemporary regulatory, constructive, architectural and social perspective. Both the geometrical features of the sites and the brief itself suggested this solution as opposed to other more forced alternatives. The corrala however responds essentially to an option for a specific way of life. A desire for life lived in community, neighbourhood and solidarity, while at once responding to the type of homes for rent required. It also involves recovering and further exploring the many sustainability-related typological and constructive features of this type of popular architecture.
