An old orphanage converted into an educational building is intervened, in order to expand it and house the new examination hall and the new library of the campus of the National Distance Education University in Valencia. The location on the site is determined by the contest rules.
Just as the use of the new building will suppose a meeting point for its users, the project aims to take this condition and reinforce it as a reason for being, proposing large open and flexible spaces. Also, as requested, the new architecture seeks to find a successful dialogue with the context that involves it. To do this, the compositional strategies and the color range of the original building are reproduced, providing new materials and languages. But, very especially, the new building assumes and expresses its condition as a peripheral pavilion of the main building, and for this its abstraction and the protagonism of the vegetation are reinforced, which will act as the common thread of the whole. The rest is construction (structures, passive sustainable strategies…) and light.
