The new professional training centre in Alicante is both an educational and an industrial building. The centre is conceived to give courses in traditional subjects as well as others related with new technologies or renewable energies. The building houses workshops, classrooms, seminar rooms, an assembly hall, administration offices and a services area. Its insertion in a urban environment on the outskirts of the city strives to make the most of the existing trees in the site, and for that purpose, reduces its volume by changing the vertical and horizontal sections. Workshops are laid out looking for northern light, while the remaining spaces are facing the south and the garden. Both areas are separated by longitudinal courtyards, and connected through walkways and meeting and resting areas. Industrialised construction systems are used, based on the modular metric of the building. The external fabric of the envelopes consists of aluminium screen plates, used to cover the opaque façades and as a brise-soleil above gangways for maintenance purposes on the glazed façades.
