The proposal presented under the motto “LOOKING TO THE SOUTH” responds, on the one hand to the indisputable advantages of midday orientation as the best known energy resource. But “LOOKING TO THE SOUTH” is also a vindication of a way of living as well as of an entire culture linked to the southern city, the Mediterranean City. The urban model of departure, although it is dense, is not a “compact urban model”. In that sense, it is important to give a special thought on the scale and character that buildings should have. The proposal shies away from betting on fragmented volumetric solutions. Bet instead on compact and serene volumes whose scale is that of the dense and compact city that is intended to achieve. The necessary urban vibration and the presence of individuality and domesticity will come from life on the terraces of houses, with their wooden shutters, their plants, their people… This is how it has always been in that Mediterranean City, which we like to refer to for its tactile and human qualities.
