The project’s proposal aims to create a museum that gives continuity inside the fantastic sculpture park of Leganés, this way making the experience of the user’s tour closely related to the outdoor visit. In order to achieve this, the new museum acquires an organic configuration, adapting to the plot’s geometry, but intertwined with the surrounding vegetation of the park. It is a building where the visitor circulates around and inside of large cylindrical halls as if, metaphorically, one felt embraced by enormous treetops.
The other starting point of the proposal arises from the following question: how should a space for exhibiting sculptures be? We consider that this type of space must be neutral and continuous, a place where the background does not distract the figure’s perception in any way. Unlike exposition halls for paintings, where the space acquires a strong boundary sensation, sculptures require immersive and isotropic environments, ideally with no alteration in planes or edges. In this sense, a cylindrical room seems to be the perfect scenery, where both the sculptures and the people who contemplate them can feel comfortable.
