BUILDING-ROOFING. Starting from the typological and constructive conceits of this 19th century former train station, the intervention in this building is understood as an extension of its roofing, considering it a grand protective gesture. The proposal posits unifying the various roofings to create one single envelope, in turn the spatial and formal seed of the proposal that is enhanced through its materialisation using criteria of abstraction and contemporaneity, adapted to the scale-landscape conferred by the proximity of the sea and the Mediterranean park.
SPACE-ROOFING. The essence of the Mediterranean quality in architecture is usually determined by intangible factors related with environmental sensations induced by light and the atmosphere of spaces. The proposal for Casa Mediterráneo is to make its interior space into a public place covered by a large, luminous roofing, functioning similarly to a kind of Mediterranean influenced cane matting built using technologies and environmental criteria, or as a vast vine-covered lattice that can environmentally qualify the building. Its flickering light and cool shadows will create a stimulating scenario for the activities to be held in the building, extending them towards the outside, connecting itself with the vegetal covering of the trees in the park.
